Jon Waite: Growing Advertise1 with Community Support

When Jon Waite graduated from university, he spotted a gap in the market: small businesses needed affordable, personalised support to build and maintain their websites, but many were reluctant to rely on large, expensive corporations. Recognising this demand, Jon launched Advertise1, a company dedicated to helping small enterprises establish and enhance their online presence. From website creation and client training to ongoing technical support, Advertise1 is built on a foundation of customer satisfaction. Jon’s approach is tailored, ensuring that each business receives solutions that suit its unique needs and budget.

Operating out of the PROTO building in Gateshead, Advertise1 offers flexible services, whether working on-site or visiting clients directly. This hands-on approach allows Jon and his team to provide bespoke support to businesses across the region.

Jon’s journey with FIRST began when he met Charlotte Windebank, founder of FIRST, at a series of networking events. Their introduction led him to attend Business ‘N’ Bait, an event where he gained valuable insights from experienced entrepreneurs on running a successful business. Inspired by these interactions, Jon sought further support to grow Advertise1.

In 2020, he secured funding from NEL, a key partner of FIRST. This investment enabled him to expand his team by hiring two staff members, accelerating the business’s growth. He also attended an accelerator event at the Leonardo Hotel in Gateshead, where he found the diverse range of speakers and the flexible format particularly beneficial. The event proved to be a turning point, leading directly to two new client acquisitions and marking a significant milestone for Advertise1.

Startup Awards North East

His involvement in 2024 Startup Awards North East further cemented his business’s trajectory. Describing this year’s event as “the best year so far” in terms of location, organisation, and atmosphere, Jon found the recognition and support invaluable. The event not only boosted his confidence but also reignited his passion for his business.

Looking ahead, Jon aims to expand Advertise1’s online presence. While word-of-mouth referrals remain his primary source of clients, he is keen to enhance visibility through social media and digital marketing. He is also eager to maintain his relationship with FIRST, whether by collaborating with other learners, participating in courses, or attending future networking events.
