Whether you are looking to gain employment, get a promotion, change career or to startup and grow your own business this course will develop your ideas, provide opportunities and resources to put your plans into action.

FIRST are delivering the qualification in partnership with Skills South Tyneside and North Of Tyne Combined Authority. This fully funded course is open to anyone over 19 years old living in Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, or South Tyneside.

The course is open to everyone of all levels and abilities, and you receive a personalised learning plan to tailor the course to your style and to fit around your lifestyle. Throughout the programme, you will be supported, inspired and motivated to take positive action towards employment or self-employment.

Whether you are currently busy job hunting, trying to juggle home schooling with work or have a to do list as long as your arm with your new business venture, this qualification can fit around your busy schedule.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE COVER? 

Entrepreneurial skills give you the capacity to act upon opportunities and ideas and transform them into value. You will develop and build on the following skills, which are based upon the EntreComp framework and identified as the core skills required to ensure growth and innovation within a business.

What does the course include?

Understanding Enterprise is not just about completing modules and getting a recognised qualification. We believe in learning by doing and putting your skills into practice, so to support your learning and to increase your business opportunities you also get:-

  • An opportunity to develop meaningful business relationships with local employers in the sectors or roles you are interested in. These connections can increase the number of opportunities for you to gain employment or new contracts.


  • Fun and innovative virtual learning making it easy to absorb the information and put your skills into practice with scenarios and real life situations.


  • Personalised learning plan that you help to create. The focus is on you, your goals and your tailored support with personal tutors, dedicated 121 time, drop ins and care calls available to help you to reach your goals in your own way.


  • Everyone has the same opportunity to succeed. Plans are tailored to you and procedures are in place to support any special requirements or additional needs you may have and all information remains private and confidential.


  • You meet like-minded people, who may be in a similar situation, or have the same ambitions and goals. Working in small groups with your peers, you drive you and your ideas forward to reach your goal.


  • Be inspired by hearing from local entrepreneurs who will share secrets to their successes, and how they have overcome the challenges that you are facing. They will provide advice and support based on their own real life experience so you know what to look out for and how to take action.


  • Additional 121 support available throughout the course in addition to the group sessions for those who feel they need some extra help.


WHAT ARE ENTREPRENURIAL SKILLS

Currently, all our courses are been delivered virtually in a fun, interactive and innovative way of learning by doing.

The Level 1 Award in Understanding Enterprise is delivered over a 6 week period. 

The course contains 3 modules and is delivered in bite size chunks so it is easy for you to digest and can work around your current lifestyle and career goals.

You will complete a skill scan, which will identify the skills you want to develop, and you will build on online e-portfolio of evidence to gain your qualification. 

There will be 6 hours per week of interactive, tutor led sessions, and an opportunity to watch recordings to further support your independent learning.

The course will give you hands on experience of speaking to businesses to strengthen your communication skills and build your confidence, giving you a HUGE boost for your next interview or business meeting.

Through this course you will learn some highly desirable entrepreneurial skills and have a recognised qualification to prove it!

But the benefits of Understanding Enterprise don’t stop there. As part of the progression support package which is included you also have access to:-

  • Signposting to non-accredited work placements which will give you hands on experience and putting your skills into practice to develop your skills further, and strengthen relationships with businesses for future opportunities.


  • Regular updates to FIRST networking events, and business news across the region by signing up to TALK and Get Started news letter.


  • Put your communication and networking skills into practice and build relationships with businesses who can help you to develop your ideas, signpost you to services or recommend opportunities for work.


  • Signposting to hotdesking facilities and access to equipment (Covid19 restrictions apply) giving you space away from home to think, work and collaborate to bounce ideas of your peers and be part of the business community. 


  • The skills you have learnt during the Understanding Enterprise will continue to develop for you. We provide a 3 month skills audit to show you how much you have progressed and can provide information on other relevant free qualifications or services which may be of interest to you.


  • Our support doesn’t end when the course does. If you have any questions feel free to call us and if we can’t help you we will know someone who can, so will point you in the right direction for the relevant support or resources you may need

SFEDI is the awarding body for the Level 1 Award in Understanding Enterprise so you also get 1 year FREE study membership to the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (RRP £175 per year!) 


If you do want to develop your idea into a side hustle, or business then your free membership to IOEE provides you with a range of services, and support such as resources and information, access to funding, case studies to learn from real life examples, mentoring support, promotions for your business.

If you have been a resident in the UK or other EU country for 3 years or more, live within Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, or South Tyneside and have not studied a similar course previously then you can register your interest for the next group, or those running later this year.
