Movement to Work

We have mentioned Movement to Work here before, but this new initiative brought to you by SAGE is one we think is worth mentioning again.

Movement to Work is a charity coalition between the UK’s leading employers, civil society and government who are together tackling youth unemployment by creating work placements with real on the job experience.

Their website is very much focussed on employers; however, they do have a section dedicated entirely to Young People which focusses on work placements, learning from home and Movement to Work ambassadors.

Check out the young peoples section to find out more about apprenticeships and learning from home opportunities.

Definitely one to keep an eye on in 2021!

12 days of Christmas? why not the 15 competencies of Entrecomp?

EntreCompWheel_FIRST

With the new year fast approaching we are all about to be bombarded with suggestions of taking up a New Year’s Resolution (and mine is definitely going to be to get into a gym, after the calorific coping mechanisms I’ve implemented in 2020) so why not set out to do something that will help your future employability?

What is EntreComp?

The EntreComp Framework covers the 15 different areas of your life and ways of thinking that you need to either nurture or discover to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.

These 15 core competencies are great for those of you who might be considering self-employment as a future option, but also to those of you looking to develop skills that will make you more employable and stand out in a crowd.

I’ll not cover them all now, but competencies include creativity, dealing with ambiguity, uncertainty and risk, and working with others.

You can find out more about the framework here.

So as well as your commitments to go to the gym more, to drink less or to save money for that holiday why not choose a competency and think about how you can start improving it today – ready for your future career?

remember to look after yourself this festive season

This year has been incredibly tough for a lot of people and so we just want to say from all of the team here at FIRST, that we wish you all a festive and happy holiday season and that we hope you all have a much better 2021.

This is going to be a Christmas season unlike any other you will have ever faced, many of you choosing not to see friends and family or perhaps spending it without someone who was here last year.

If for whatever reason you are particularly struggling this year, please reach out to those who can help whether that be a trusted friend or family member, or an organisation that provides support to those in need or even your GP.

It is vitally important we all take some time to look after ourselves, so that we can look forward to a much better Christmas next year.

We've popped a few links below for anyone who feels like they might be struggling - please get in touch and use these services if you think you need that extra bit of support.
